The shop

The family van Beek have been owners of the shop for three generations. This page describes the main events in the history of the shop.

First generation
In 1942 Jan van Beek sr. started a shop on the Nieuwendijk, selling cigars.
In 1956 Jan van Beek sr. bought the current shop at Damrak 10 and in 1957 after a big renovation the shop reopens.

Second generation
From august 1963 the son of Jan van Beek, Bert, helps in the shop.
In august 1974 the shop becomes a B.V. and Bert van Beek becomes the chairman of the store.

Third generation
In 1998 the shops closes for two months. There's no foundation under the store and that has to be fixed. At the same time the shop is modernized. When the shops opens again, Paul van Beek takes over as the chairman of the store.
